Bible study – Spirit of God series 3/4

Last Wednesday was part 2 of at least a 4 part series on the Spirit of God. We spend a few weeks preparing for Christmas and Easter, so I thought there would be value in preparing for Pentecost. It’s an interesting season and I can only hope it will make more sense after the study series.

In our ‘study’ of God as Spirit, we are looking at how people of faith (Hebrew and Christian) described the Spirit over the past 3000 years. Ancient imagery used to describe that which can’t be described. In week 1 we looked at the Hebrew understanding of Spirit. Last week, session 2, we looked at how the Apostle Paul talked about the Spirit in the earliest pieces of writing we have – 1 Thessalonians and Galatians. Letters to two fledgling communities in the process of leaving the synagogues and forming communities around the Jesus story. This coming Wednesday, we will look at  how the Spirit is written about in reference to the life of Jesus as presented to us in the Gospels
